Welcome to the ANU Lightboard & Podcast Studio

The Lightboard & Podcast Studio offers a powerful new way for ANU educators, researchers, and students to communicate ideas with clarity and impact.

This studio is a joint initiative between Education Innovation and the ANU Centre for Energy Systems (ACES), and is available for use by all ANU staff and students.

Using transparent glass and dynamic visuals, the Lightboard allows presenters to face the camera while writing or drawing, enabling a natural, engaging teaching style that supports deep learning and audience connection. Whether you’re recording a lecture, explaining a concept, or pitching a research idea, the Lightboard & Podcast Studio helps you tell your story in a visually compelling and memorable way.

What you can do with the Studio?

The lightboard allows you to face your audience while writing, using natural eye contact and gesture to enhance engagement and guide attention. With no need to turn away, you can maintain a stronger connection throughout your presentation—making your teaching more dynamic, interactive, and immersive.

You can use the Lightboard & Podcast Studio to create a wide range of educational content, including course introductions, lecture recordings, explanatory videos, interactive assessments, and more.

The Studio also has podcast equipment for up to three speakers. Feel free to contact Multimedia Education Team to discuss your creative ideas.

How to book the Studio?

You can use our booking page. The regular session is one hour, if you need to book longer sessions, or you need recurrent bookings, please contact Multimedia Education Team.

How to use the Studio?

We will provide step-by-step guide for your first studio session, and we suggest you bookmark this page for future reference.

Preparing for Your First Studio Session

Here’s what to expect and how to prepare for your first recording session in the Studio:

1. Prepare Your Content

Please ensure you’re well-rehearsed before your session. The Studio does not support a teleprompter, so it’s important to be confident in your delivery. If you’re not quite ready, feel free to contact us—we’ll be happy to help you reschedule.

2. Gaining Access to the Studio

The studio door remains locked during business hours. When you arrive, please notify us via Microsoft Teams, text, or email so we can let you in.

3. Saving Your Recording

You’re welcome to bring a USB drive to copy your recording after the session. Alternatively, you can upload your file directly to OneDrive or another cloud storage platform from the studio computer.

4. Using the Recording System

Recordings are done using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) on a dedicated studio laptop. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with OBS—we’ll guide you through the setup during your first session.

5. Practice Makes Perfect

Even if you’re confident with OBS or video recording in general, we strongly recommend doing one or two short test runs to get comfortable with the Lightboard setup.

6. During Your Recording

When you’re ready, simply press the “Record” button to begin. A member of our team can either stay with you during the session or wait just outside the studio, depending on your preference.

7. After Your Recording

Once you’ve finished, remember to copy your recording to your USB drive or upload it to your chosen storage location before leaving the studio.

Need More Help?

No prior experience is required—we’ll be there to help with setup, troubleshooting, and any questions you may have. If you’d like additional support for future sessions, just let us know.
