During August the Professional Learning team at CLT facilitated the ELT Weekly program. This five-week version of the Exploring Learning and Teaching (ELT) program is offered in addition to the five-day intensive ELT. The program offers a practice-based learning experience with peers that introduces you to important aspects of learning and teaching in the higher education context. This program is ideal for anyone who is new to teaching or looking to consolidate their teaching practice.
The goal of the ELT program is to equip participants with the skills to be an effective and reflective educator. The content and activities of the program focus on building essential knowledge, strategies and techniques for engaging students, facilitating teaching, and enabling meaningful learning. Sessions are designed to be highly interactive, practical and problem centred.
Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with one attendee noting:
“The strength of this program were the interactive tasks that really cemented the concepts taught and gave me many ideas for how to incorporate those concepts into my own teaching.”
Participants also valued the sessions as an opportunity to collaborate, make new connections and share and exchange ideas, which aligns perfectly with one of the program’s key goals: to help foster a collaborative and supportive community for teaching and learning across the university. One participant stated:
“ELT introduced me to different ways of conducting and facilitating tutorials. I truly enjoyed the interactive and collaborative sessions and would highly recommend it.”
ELT will run again from 25 to 29 November as a five-day intensive, face-to-face program. We are also excited to introduce an online version of the program to be run during the same period. ELT Digital is designed to expand the program’s reach by providing more options for participation while offering a high level of interactivity, engagement and practicability through the combination of various digital tools.
We look forward to welcoming new participants to both the face-to-face and online versions of the ELT program during November and to further supporting the professional growth of our teaching staff.
