A 3-2-1 reflection involves students synthesising content covered, generally working from broader to narrower categories. Students do this by identifying three things in one category, two things in another and one thing in another.
Instructions
- Provide students with each category in the 3-2-1 reflection.
- Give them five minutes to note down their answers.
Resources
- Three categories for the reflection
Variations
- Make it a critical thinking strategy: Vary the 3-2-1 categories to require more critical thinking, e.g., three ways you agree with X, two ways you disagree with X and one thing about X that surprised you.
- Make it a small group activity: Students could work on the 3-2-1 reflection individually and then share with a group.
- Make it time-based: Spend 3 minutes reviewing notes, 2 minutes summarizing and 1 minute concisely noting down ‘the one thing’.
