Synopsis

The ANU Management Program, delivered in partnership with the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), is a multi-award-winning and bespoke Graduate Certificate of Management designed for Indigenous Australian Public Service (APS) employees across the country. The program addresses historic inequities in educational opportunities that have contributed to the under-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees in APS leadership roles.

Developed collaboratively by the NIAA, the Research School of Management, and the ANU College of Business and Economics (CBE), the program is recognised for its academic rigour and strong, holistic support structures. Since 2021, it has empowered participants—many of whom had no prior university experience—to build subject knowledge while developing confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills that help them overcome barriers to career progression.

Renowned by graduates as “life-changing,” the program has drawn sponsorship from nine APS agencies and departments, with alumni now employed across 14. By the end of 2024, up to 80 participants will have graduated, with an outstanding completion rate of 84%. Graduates report enhanced career adaptability, significant promotion outcomes, and successful entry into further postgraduate study. Remarkably, three alumni have been awarded the prestigious Sir Roland Wilson Foundation Pat Turner Scholarship, underscoring the program’s transformative impact.
