TechLauncher and Computing Internship programs nominated for Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Programs that Enhance Learning
Enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in higher education at the Australian National University (ANU) is something that we deeply value and continuously practise as a team at ANU Careers & Employability. By partnering with the ANU College of Computing, Engineering & Cybernetics (CECC) in delivering specialised careers education through the TechLauncher program and Computing Internship Programs, we are proud to share that we have earned a nomination for the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Educational Excellence under Programs that Enhance Learning. This is a significant recognition of our commitment to empowering students and helping them thrive in their careers.
During the first and second semester of 2024, our careers consultants, Lucy Pullen and Skye Luton, partnered with Myo Nguyen, Christy Chen and Emily Shing from CECC Student Employability to tailor workshops specifically designed to meet the needs of computing students undertaking an industry hosted internship. These interactive sessions provided essential guidance on application preparation and interview skills, with contributions from industry speakers offering advice and expertise from an employer’s perspective. Collaboratively, we aim to maximise students’ chances of securing coveted placements within the internship program.
Additionally, careers consultants Jenny Tan and Tempe Archer, alongside Charles Gretton and Tom Worthington and dedicated tutors, facilitated career education workshops as part of the TechLauncher program. These workshops are crafted to enhance students’ understanding of job application processes, the Australian job market, and effective self-presentation to potential employers. The program enables teams to work directly with industry, business and government organisations to develop, prototype and launch real solutions within the field of technology.
Meggen Pigram, our team’s employer engagement officer for STEM, plays a crucial role by liaising with employers to ensure their active involvement in these workshops. This collaboration provides students with invaluable industry updates and insights into the current job market, and increases students’ understanding of recruitment processes.
Through these collaborative efforts, we continue to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their careers, making a lasting impact on their professional journeys within an engaged and effective learning environment.
