Synopsis
Yi Gong tutors in BUSN7050 Corporate Accounting, one of the most challenging postgraduate courses in the Research School of Accounting at the Australian Na9onal University. Having achieved outstanding results in the course herself, Yi brings both deep subject knowledge and empathy for the student experience.
She has been a tutor since 2023 and is recognised for transforming a difficult course into a learning environment that is clear, engaging and supportive. Yi’s teaching focuses on helping students make sense of complex accounting standards by connecting theory with professional practice. She uses plain language, visual diagrams, and step-by-step frameworks to simplify abstract rules. She also designs interactive resources such as flowcharts, case-based role plays, and AI-driven simulations that spark curiosity and encourage students to think critically about real business problems. Her approach ensures that students see how what they learn in class applies directly to the workplace. Individual support is another hallmark of Yi’s teaching.
She offers one-on-one guidance to students facing challenges, tailoring study strategies to help them build confidence and achieve success. She collaborates closely with the course convener to refine resources, including peer-review frameworks and in-tutorial checks, which have lifted performance across the cohort.
Yi’s impact is reflected in consistently high student evaluations, with agreement that she “supported my learning” reaching up to 97 percent, well above School and College benchmarks. Her commitment to evaluating feedback, trialling innovations such as gamified revision modules, and sharing good practice shows her dedication to continuous improvement and to student success.
